How do you know if a peptide vendor is legit? A 12-point checklist for European buyers

Peptides: how do I know if the seller or brand is legit?

Work through evidence you can check from outside the site. Every point below can be confirmed by a buyer in ten minutes without contacting the vendor, and none of it depends on trusting the vendor's own description of itself. Can you provide the exact COA tied to the lot I will receive?

This is the single highest value question, and the answer separates most vendors. A batch level report names the batch that was analysed, and the vial you receive carries that batch reference. A generic report shows that a sample of that compound passed at some point, which tells you nothing about the vial in the parcel.

Know what a standard report covers. A typical peptide analysis states identity, amount in mg per vial and peptide purity, with HPLC named as the testing method and a detection limit cutoff below one twentieth of the usual amount per vial. Is Janoshik testing legit, and can a vendor compromise the process?

Janoshik Analytical is a commercial laboratory in Prague, widely used by European suppliers. Its own site states that every report in its database is verifiable through a verification form or the QR code on the report, and that form asks for two values: a task number and a unique key. If a vendor's report link opens on the laboratory's domain and resolves against those values, the report itself is genuine.

What a genuine report cannot prove is that the batch shipped to you matches the batch that was sent for analysis. The laboratory tests what it receives. That gap is why batch level publishing matters more than a single showcase report, and why a report per batch is the standard to hold vendors to. Note also that ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of testing laboratories, is what accreditation bodies assess against; check whether a laboratory claims it.

Are any of these vendors located in Europe, and what does that change at customs?

It changes whether a parcel crosses a customs border at all. The EU customs union means member states impose no customs duties internally, and once goods have cleared customs they circulate freely between member states without additional tariffs or border checks. A parcel dispatched from a warehouse inside the EU to an EU address is an intra-union movement.

A parcel from outside the union is an import, with a declaration, possible duty and VAT, and the possibility of inspection. That is the practical difference behind the recurring question about packages detained at customs. Ask which country the parcel actually ships from, not where the company says it is based.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment mix is an underrated trust signal, because it reveals whether a regulated third party has been willing to onboard the business. Accepting cards, iDEAL in the Netherlands, Bancontact in Belgium or SEPA transfers means a payment service provider ran checks on the merchant and the merchant is subject to scheme rules. Card and account based payments in the EU also fall under the second Payment Services Directive, including strong customer authentication.

Crypto is not by itself a red flag, and plenty of legitimate suppliers offer it alongside cards. Crypto only is different: it removes the dispute route entirely, because a transfer cannot be reversed and there is no chargeback.

Has anyone used this vendor, and are the reviews real?

Check reviews somewhere the vendor does not control. Fake reviews are not merely dishonest in the EU, they are prohibited: the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, as amended in 2019, bans submitting or commissioning false consumer reviews and misrepresenting consumer reviews in all circumstances. On-site testimonials with no dates and no negative entries are the pattern to distrust.

Two cheap checks add context. A public WHOIS lookup shows when the domain was registered, and a shop launched last month with a five year review history is not consistent. And send a real pre-sales question: response time and whether the answer is specific tells you more than any badge.

What does "research use only" mean, and do I need a research licence to order?

Research use only means the product is supplied as a laboratory reagent and not as a medicine, and it is a statement about permitted use rather than a quality grade. It carries weight only when the rest of the site is consistent with it. A vendor that prints RUO in the footer while promising recovery or anti-ageing outcomes in the product copy has not made a research claim, it has made a health claim with a disclaimer attached.

Regulators take the same view of the substance. BASG, the Austrian medicines agency, stated on 27 May 2026 that many peptides offered online are classified as medicines without the corresponding authorisation, and that unauthorised medicines are subject to no regulatory control of origin, manufacturer or quality standards.

What is the refund policy, and does the right of withdrawal apply?

EU consumers have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract under the Consumer Rights Directive, 2011/83/EU, without giving a reason. Article 16 sets out the exceptions, and one of them applies directly here: sealed goods which are not suitable for return for health protection or hygiene reasons, and which were unsealed after delivery. A sealed vial returned unopened is generally within the right; an opened one generally is not.

A legitimate vendor states this plainly. Two related red flags close the checklist: no batch numbers on any product page, and prices far below the market for the same compound and vial size, which usually means a different quantity or a different substance than the label says.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a peptide COA is real?

Open it from the laboratory's domain rather than the vendor's, and check that it resolves. Janoshik reports carry a task number and a unique key that are entered into a verification form on the laboratory site. Then check that the batch on the report matches the batch printed on your vial, because a real report for a different batch proves nothing about yours.

Do you test for endotoxin, residual solvents, or heavy metals?

Usually not. A standard peptide report is an HPLC result covering identity, amount and purity. Sterility testing, heavy metals analysis, pH measurement and screening for peptide contamination are separately priced add-ons at the laboratory, so unless the report explicitly shows them, those tests were not run on that batch.

Is a peptide vendor with only crypto payment a scam?

Not necessarily, but it removes your recourse. Card, iDEAL, Bancontact and SEPA payments involve a regulated payment service provider that onboarded the merchant and a formal dispute route if goods never arrive. A crypto transfer is irreversible and has no chargeback, so crypto only shifts all of the settlement risk onto the buyer.

Did anyone get their package detained at customs?

It happens mainly with parcels arriving from outside the EU, which are imports and can be declared, taxed and inspected. Movements between EU member states are not import events, because the customs union removes internal duties and border checks. Ask a vendor which country a parcel physically ships from before ordering.

What does research use only actually mean?

That the product is supplied as a laboratory reagent, not as a medicine, and that no claim is made about use in people. It describes permitted use, not purity or sterility. Its value as a signal depends on consistency: RUO wording next to marketing copy promising healing or performance outcomes tells you the label is decorative.

Are prices far below the market a reliable warning sign?

They are worth checking rather than dismissing. Compare the price per milligram for the same vial size across several EU suppliers. A large gap usually resolves into a smaller vial, a blend where you assumed a single compound, an underfilled vial, or a batch that was never independently analysed at all.
