Short answer: BPC-157 and TB-500 are different molecules with different research histories. BPC-157 is a synthetic 15 amino acid peptide, sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, described as a partial sequence of a protein isolated from human gastric juice; most published work used rat tendon, ligament, muscle and gastrointestinal models. TB-500 is a synthetic fragment of thymosin beta-4, a 43 amino acid actin binding protein, whose literature is mainly cell culture and rodent work on cell migration, angiogenesis and cardiac injury. Neither is an authorised medicine, and both sit on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List.

What is the difference between TB-500 and BPC-157?
The difference starts with the parent molecule. BPC-157 is a short synthetic peptide of 15 amino acids reproducing part of a larger protein found in gastric juice. TB-500 is a synthetic fragment of thymosin beta-4, an intracellular protein that binds monomeric actin. Laboratories treat them as separate assays. Janoshik Analytical, the Prague laboratory whose reports many European suppliers publish, lists a BPC-157 analysis and a separate TB4 / TB-500 / TB4(17-23) analysis. That second page gives full thymosin beta-4 at 4963 Da and the fragment at 889 Da, sequence N-Acetyl-Leu-Lys-Lys-Thr-Glu-Thr-Gln, and states that the report says whether the entire 43 amino acid chain was present or only a fragment.

What did the published BPC-157 research actually investigate?
Almost all of it is animal and cell work. A 2011 study in the Journal of Applied Physiology described BPC-157 as a 15 amino acid partial sequence of a compound isolated from human gastric juice, and tested it on rat Achilles tendon explants and cultured tendon fibroblasts, reporting increased outgrowth, survival under oxidative stress and in vitro migration. A 2006 paper in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research reported the sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV and studied transected rat quadriceps muscle over 72 days; a 2010 paper studied transected rat medial collateral ligament over 90 days. A 2025 review in Current Reviews in Musculoskeletal Medicine put it plainly: broad preclinical support, three pilot studies in humans. Our BPC-157 research overview covers the same body of work.
What did the published thymosin beta-4 research actually investigate?
Thymosin beta-4 was studied first as a cell biology molecule, then as a repair candidate. The most cited paper is a 2004 report in Nature: the G-actin sequestering peptide promoted myocardial and endothelial cell migration in the embryonic mouse heart, enhanced cardiomyocyte survival in culture, and improved cardiac function after coronary artery ligation in mice. A 2012 review in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences described it as a neuroprotective candidate in experimental rat traumatic brain injury, citing angiogenesis, neurogenesis and cell migration. That literature concerns the full 43 amino acid protein, not the seven amino acid fragment sold as TB-500.
What is the BPC-157 + TB-500 blend, and why are they sold together?
They are grouped because their preclinical literatures overlap on connective tissue and vascular repair themes, so vendors market them as a recovery pairing. Nothing published establishes that the combination behaves differently from either alone, and there is no controlled human trial of the pair. Two practical points follow. A blend vial holds a fixed ratio set by the manufacturer, so one component cannot be varied independently. And some laboratory blend assays report identity and amount only, excluding peptide purity, which is stated openly in the test name. Our BPC-157 vs TB-500 guide covers the sourcing side.
Is BPC-157 + TB-500 approved, and what is the anti-doping position?
No. Neither holds a marketing authorisation as a medicine in the EU, and both are supplied as research chemicals. The Austrian medicines agency BASG published an official notice on 27 May 2026 stating that many peptides offered online are classified as medicines without the corresponding authorisation, that placing them on the market in Austria and importing them into Austria is prohibited, and that unauthorised medicines are subject to no control of origin, manufacturer or quality standards. On the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, section S0 covers substances "including but not limited to BPC-157", and section S2.3 lists "Thymosin-Beta4 and its derivatives e.g. TB-500". Both are prohibited at all times.

BPC-157 and TB-500 step by step: what is the best place to store them?
Handling is where the two are most alike. Both ship as lyophilised powder in a sealed vial, commonly 5 mg or 10 mg, and both are stable enough as dry powder to survive tracked shipping at ambient temperature. Sealed vials are kept cold, dry and dark. Standard practice refrigerates a vial once reconstituted, protects the solution from light and repeated warming, and avoids freeze-thaw cycling. Our reconstitution guide sets out the aseptic sequence.
How much bacteriostatic water goes into a 5 mg or 10 mg vial?
This is a solvent question, not a dosing question, and we answer it only as solvent volume. In laboratory practice a 5 mg or 10 mg lyophilised vial is typically reconstituted with roughly 1 to 3 ml of bacteriostatic water, chosen so the stock is convenient to measure. More water does not weaken the peptide, it changes the concentration. Bacteriostatic Water for Injection USP is sterile water containing 0.9 per cent, or 9 mg per ml, benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative, supplied in a multiple-dose container from which repeated withdrawals may be made. Our calculator converts a volume into a concentration. We give no guidance on administration to people.
Can I see the Certificate of Analysis before buying?
You should be able to, and it should be tied to the batch you will receive rather than a historical sample. A standard peptide report states identity, amount in mg per vial and peptide purity, with HPLC named as the method and a detection limit cutoff below one twentieth of the usual amount per vial. Janoshik reports carry a task number and a unique key, entered into a form on the laboratory's own site, so a report is checked against the laboratory database rather than a PDF supplied by the seller. Batch reports sit on the lab results page.
Frequently asked questions
BPC-157 vs TB-500: which first?
Published research does not answer that, because no study has compared them head to head in one model with the same endpoints. The two literatures use different species, different injuries and different measurements, so any ranking would be an opinion rather than a finding.
What is the BPC-157 + TB-500 combination as a research blend?
A single vial holding both lyophilised peptides in a fixed ratio set by the manufacturer, most often 5 mg and 5 mg. No published controlled study covers the combination. Check whether the batch report covers both components and includes peptide purity, because some blend assays exclude it.
Should I keep the unopened lyophilised vials in the fridge or freezer?
Sealed lyophilised powder is the most stable form these compounds take, and standard laboratory handling keeps unopened vials cold, dry and out of light. Once a vial has been reconstituted, refrigeration is the usual practice and repeated warming is avoided.
Is Janoshik testing legit?
Janoshik is a commercial analytical laboratory in Prague. Its site states that every report in its database can be verified through the verification form or the QR code on the report, using a task number and a unique key. A verifiable report shows what that sample contained, not what a later run contained.
Do you test for endotoxin, residual solvents, or heavy metals?
Not in the standard peptide assay, which is an HPLC identity, amount and purity result. Sterility testing, heavy metals analysis, pH measurement and LCMS screening for peptide contamination are separately priced add-ons, so unless a report shows them they were not run.
Are BPC-157 and TB-500 banned in sport?
Yes, both, at all times. The 2026 WADA Prohibited List names BPC-157 in section S0, non-approved substances, and lists "Thymosin-Beta4 and its derivatives e.g. TB-500" in section S2.3. Anti-doping status is separate from national medicines law, so an athlete faces both questions independently.
